Eelko Brevoord (Catalyst Intelligence) and Tiago Vilela (Avantium) have published a paper in Digital Refining PTQ Q3 2023 on the use of the HydroScope model to predict the hydrotreater performance while co-processing vegetable oil. They conclude that is important to do side-by-side tests of various catalyst systems to measure the various activities, selectivity’s, and CO inhibition factors prior to choosing a catalyst for co-processing vegetable oils in a commercial unit. The laboratory (iso-thermal) data of the different catalyst systems can be converted into performance predictions for the commercial unit using the HydroScope model. Thus, modelling will allow selection of the catalyst with the best performance under actual operating conditions in the reactor.
